Kung Fu Classes For Adults
Level of Classes: Beginner and up Number
of Credits: 1.0 or 2.0 Pre-Requisite: None
Description: Kung Fu class teaches traditional Chinese
martial arts with initial emphasis on conditioning, flexibility and self
defense skills. A variety of stances, kicks and strikes are practiced
individually then combined in Northern Long Fist bare hand forms which
introduce coordination of stepping, blocking, striking and kicking. At the
intermediate level, Kung Fu class features training of reaction and fighting
habits for self defense applications through practice of fighting form drills
with a partner. The student develops a strong foundation of techniques as well
as natural, fluid reactions which are later practiced in more advanced bare
hand, weapon, and two-person forms. All classes are 45 minutes.

Kung Fu Classes For Children
Level of Classes: Beginner and up Number
of Credits: 1.0 or 2.0 Pre-Requisite: None
Description: Children's Kung Fu classes are most suitable
for children who are at least 6 years of age. Initial class emphasis is on body
conditioning, coordination, flexibility and strength development. A wide
variety of stances, kicking and striking techniques are practiced individually
then combined in traditional Northern Long Fist barehand routines, which
introduce coordination of stepping, blocking, striking, and kicking and develop
physical memory skills. The student will develop a strong foundation of martial
arts techniques as well as natural, fluid body-mechanics which can be applied
to more advanced Kung Fu training as well as to other sporting activities. The
class environment and teaching methods are designed to downplay aggressive
behavior and to foster an atmosphere of cooperation and team-effort. Promotions
are awarded in class to reward student's hard work and to give students a
feeling of accomplishment, thus building self-confidence. All classes are 30
minutes.

Taiji Quan Classes
Level of Classes: Beginner and up Number
of Credits: 1.0 or 2.0 Pre-Requisite: None
Description: Taiji classes begin with introduction of the
essential postures of Yang Style Taiji with emphasis on balance, relaxation,
joint-loosening and increasing circulation. Later the sequence of the
24-Movement International Yang Style Taiji routine is taught and applications
of the movements for self defense situations are introduced. Sensitivity to
one's surroundings and to others is developed through the practice of pushing
hands with a partner. At the intermediate level, the emphasis is placed on
proper body alignment, fluid coordination of movements, breathing techniques
and cultivation of energy. All classes are 45 minutes.

High Performance Classes
Level of Classes: Intermediate and up
Number of Credits: 1.0 Pre-Requisite: Completion of Beginner Level Kung Fu
curriculum and recommendation of instructor
Description: This class introduces a student to the type of
training required for performance-level Kung Fu. At the outset, the emphasis
will be on exercises to augment the strength and flexibility training given in
the Kung Fu workout. Speed and endurance drills will allow the student to
accelerate technique execution and improve dynamics of body motion for
competition level performance. Through systematic training, the student will
progress from basic tumbling skills to advanced Kung Fu acrobatics like flying
kicks, carp kip-ups and handsprings. All classes are 45 minutes.

Qin Na Classes
Level of Classes: Intermediate and up
Number of Credits: 1.0 Pre-Requisite: Completion of Beginner Level Kung Fu
or Taiji Curriculum
Description: This course covers controlling techniques
utilizing wrist, neck, shoulder, and elbow joint locking. Initially emphasis is
placed on smooth and relaxed application of basic controlling techniques for
development of control and awareness of an opponent's pain level. As skill and
control develops, applications from real fighting situations such as grabbing,
punching, or kicking will be introduced. In addition to training in
applications, the use of counter-attacks is introduced so the student learns
how to avoid or counter an opponent's attempt of control. Stepping
coordination, smoothness of movement and sensitivity to an opponent's movement
is emphasized, so the student will eventually be able to react naturally and
instinctively to any situation. All classes are 45 minutes.
